Supports Wildlife, Landscapes and Development for Conservation, "WILD" program in Northern and Western Uganda.
The JGI component in Northern Uganda mainly focuses on conservation activities in Mt Otze Forest Reserve in Moyo District . Mt. Otze is a transboundary (contigous with Nimule National park in Southern Sudan), and dual management landscape i.e. under joint jurisdiction of the National Forestry Authority and Uganda Wildlife Authority.
The Jane Goodall Institutes component is a community-based conservation program integrating wildlife conservation and socio-economic development to ensure the sustainability of conservation efforts in the Otzi-Nimule Landscape.
In Western Uganda, JGI’s WILD geographic focus is on the Budongo Landscape that covers Budongo Central Forest Reserve (CFR) and Bugoma CFR. The project also extends to fragmented forests that connect the aforementioned CFR’s.
Under WILD West JGI aims to support biodiversity conservation and improved natural resource management in Western Uganda byon Environmental Education taught in schools, community awareness on conservation and the plight of great apes, increasing the capacity to monitor and manage great ape health, and improving public health for frontline human communities around Budongo Forest Reserve.
