JGIUGANDAFIELDPROGRAMMES
Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established in October 1998 as a program to care for orphaned chimpanzees or others removed from their natural habitat, and with no chance of survival back in the wild. JGI Uganda was instrumental in the establishment of the sanctuary and the Trust that now manages this sanctuary.
CSWCT consists of local and international organizations committed to providing quality of life for chimpanzees under captive environments in Uganda, and ensuring their survival of populations in the wild.

Sanctuary Operations Manual
JGI-Uganda Executive Director, Debby Cox has developed a Sanctuary Operations Manual for use in JGI and JGI-affiliated sanctuaries. This Manual creates a uniform management system for chimpanzee sanctuaries and provides a comprehensive resource for JGI and JGI-affiliated sanctuary managers and staff that care for chimpanzees in captive environments in sub-Saharan Africa. Through the implementation of this manual, JGI hopes to continue to improve the conditions for chimpanzees in our care, evaluate potential release populations and sites, increase capacity-building among staff, and build stronger relationships with local communities, national governments and local agencies working with wildlife.
