EDUCATION PROGRAMMES

Past:

Kibale Earth Education Programme

Environmental education is an up and coming part of JGI Uganda's work. We currently have a very successful programme running in the area surrounding Kibale National Park. This programme is based on the Earth Education curriculum that is used at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, but has been adapted for the forest areas and larger class sizes.

The programme incorporates 8 primary schools and works with primary five students. The curriculum is run for seven weeks and during this time each student gets the opportunity to do a forest walk, where they discover the natural wonders around them. On completion of the curriculum, the students undertake actions to help their environment. So far they have done, amongst other things, tree planting, radio shows, role plays and talks in church to the local community.
