JGI UGANDA FIELD PROGRAMMES

Budongo Forest Ecotourism Project

With a grant from USAID/PRIME/West Project, JGI upgraded the tourist facilities at Kaniyo Pabidi and Busingiro sites in Budongo Central Forest Reserve.

JGI conducted a 3-year intervention program concentrating on capacity building of staff and infrastructure development. This brief intervention by JGI established an economically sustainable and highly successful eco tourist project. The revenue from these sites go towards activities such as conservation education in rural communities adjacent to Budongo Forest; supporting increased monitoring and law enforcement for the whole of the Budongo Forest Reserve, and supporting community development programs.
